A VR application where parents can do tasks, prepare effectively, and explore emotional regulation tips before entering parenthood.

Created a product for parents entering parenthood. This project explores products in this space and innovation for the users. DevelUP has both physical and tangible tasks where users can learn skills and feel more prepared when entering parenthood.

People often have children without experiencing real life parenting scenarios. This leads to individuals struggling to navigate parenthood responsibly.

Understanding The Space

PROBLEM & RESEARCH

My partner and I dove into this space to understand opportunity areas and gaps in this market. Through research, we found that many parents enter parenthood feeling overwhelmed and not prepared for what is ahead. We also discovered that people learn best with hands on activites and situations where they can actually act out the outcomes.

Process

AFFINITY MAPPING FOR USER STORIES

This was a great tool to think of different factors that would impact each of our personas throughout this experience. This helped personalize the experience more. Exploring all of these goals will help us to continue to develop strong user flows and storyboards.

We understood that a VR piece of technology can be overwhelming and hard to learn so we incorporated an app application for our users to set up their experience there and have less set up instructions in the actual experience. This allows for more focus on the task at hand and less room for error.

USER JOURNEY & TASKS

We created tasks for each of our users to understand where the app comes into play and the flow of the experience. This flow highlights Jasmine selecting an action lesson to learn how to change a diaper with distractions. It includes actions, feedback, and affordances from the experience.

Here is a journey map of Jasmine's experience through onboarding, during the experience, and off boarding. You can see how Jasmine starts in a pain point, nervous, but as she progresses she stars to lean into the experience.


Jasmine ends the experience feeling and doing better than she thought, preparing her for the real thing.

BROWNBOXING IN VR

Here we used VR to understand spatial placement in the experience. This helped us understand what the user would see and how the experience would flow.

STORYBOARDER.AI

Here we used AI storyboarder to explore a user journey with DevelUP. This journey is specific to Jasmine, one of our personas, who is a single mother entering parenthood. You can see she is setting up the experience through the app on her phone and doing a task of changing her baby's diaper.
